Certificate Program:Frequently Asked Questions
What qualities are you looking for in applicants? Most Certificate students are adults in mid to upper-level management positions in the nonprofit sector, experienced professionals looking to enter the sector, as well as government and business executives who work with nonprofit organizations.
How many people do you accept? CPNL accepts around 40 students for the program, however the Spring Certificate Program is generally smaller.
What is the cost of the program? Tuition is $4900 and the application fee is $35. Tuition payments can be made online through credit card or online check. Paper checks (made out to Georgetown University) may be mailed to:

Is scholarship funding available for this program? Partial scholarships are available, but are reserved for students with the greatest need. If you are interested in a scholarship, please submit a one or two paragraph letter, addressed to Dr. Kathy Kretman, Director of the Center for Public & Nonprofit Leadership, detailing your need for financial assistance. This letter should be accompanied by a copy of your latest 1040 tax return statement.
Where is the program held? Thursday and Friday classes of the Spring Certificate Program are held at Georgetown’s Clarendon Campus and Saturday classes are held at Georgetown’s Main Campus. The Summer Certificate Program is held at the Car Barn, which houses Georgetown’s Public Policy Institute, right off of the main campus.
What kind of credit do I receive for the program? Students receive 7.2 continuing education credits for the Spring Certificate Program and 6.4 credits for the Summer Certificate Program.
Do you provide housing for students coming from out of town? Optional housing for the Summer Certificate Program is provided in Georgetown University dorms, conveniently located within a short walking distance of the class site, for an additional fee. Housing is not provided for the Spring Certificate Program.
Who should write my recommendation letter? The recommendation letter should be written an individual, preferably a current or recent employer, who can comment on the applicant’s work experience and his/her ability to successfully complete the certificate program.
