  Who We Are: Our Mission

The Center for Public & Nonprofit Leadership at Georgetown University is a leading education, research and training center dedicated to the development of public, nonprofit and philanthropic leadership.

Established in 1997 as the Center for the Study of Voluntary Organizations and Service, the Center has been recognized for pioneering research and academic programs in the field of nonprofit studies. The Center changed its name in 2003 to reflect the expanded scope of its work.

Our programs for graduate students, practitioners and policymakers enhance their capacity to work across organizations, communities and sectors to address public needs, tackle public problems and, above all, promote the public good.

As part of
Georgetown University’s Public Policy Institute (GPPI) in Washington, D.C., we are uniquely positioned – both academically and geographically – to offer our students a comprehensive education comprised of rigorous study, experience in the field, and an exchange of ideas with leading scholars and practitioners.
