2015-2016 Annual Report

Posted in News Story

Dear Colleagues,

When I look back on this past year, the first thing that comes to mind is what is happening in communities across America-increasing poverty, racial and ethnic injustice and a growing sense of uncertainty and tension. It reminds me of my first job in the early seventies, working for the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division on cases of discrimination in employment, municipal service delivery, and voting rights. In many of our communities, it seems like little has changed.

Yet, every day I come in contact with people who give me hope; who refuse to believe that poverty is intractable and that racism cannot be overcome. They are working in all sectors, from community-based nonprofits to state agencies and national associations. I am humbled by their tenacity and courage.

I am proud to share with you the highlights from our Center’s work this past year, focusing on poverty, the racial wealth divide, public policy and advocacy.
