Role of Philanthropy in Advancing Racial Equity
Posted in News Story
This past year, the Center for Public and Nonprofit Leadership undertook a research initiative to understand and document how the Washington, D.C. metro area’s philanthropic and nonprofit institutions are intentionally promoting racial equity and justice. That naturally led us to the Washington Regional Association of Grantmakers’ (WRAG) learning series for philanthropic leaders, Putting Racism on the Table. In the first half of 2016, WRAG hosted a series of six lectures on the fundamental elements of racism at work in America today. As a learning series, Putting Racism on the Table aimed to educate CEOs, presidents, and trustees of philanthropic organizations from across the greater Washington, D.C. area. This report assesses the impact of Putting Racism on the Table. It documents the participants’ feedback on the series experience and enumerates the diverse impact it has had on their work.
