2014 Philanthropy and Social Change

On April 22, 2014 Georgetown University’s Philanthropy and Social Change course awarded $15,000 in grants to D.C. nonprofits. The course is taught by Kathy Kretman, Ph.D. and Luisa Boyarski.
The Grant Award’s Ceremony featured presentations by students about their experiences both as grantwriters and grantmakers. The students discussed the process by which they defined the mission, values, and strategies of their foundations, and their methods for evaluating the grant proposal. The event concluded with the presentation of $15,000 in grant awards and comments from the nonprofits receiving the awards.
Awardees included:
- A Wider Circle: $2,500
- Ayuda: $4,500
- Critical Exposure: $3,000
- Deaf Abused Women’s Network: $2,500
- Free Minds Book Club & Writing Workshop: $2,500
The course is made possible through grants from the Learning by Giving Foundation and Georgetown University’s Social Innovation Public Service Fund.
