    The new resistance groups that “popped-up” after the 2016 presidential election have made an impact in a series of important elections in Virginia, have helped fight for key legislation including Medicaid Expansion and the ERA, and have provided a collaborative space for individuals to become politically engaged, often for the first time.

  • 2020 Census: Race Counts

    On April 30th from 3:30pm to 5:30pm, the Center for Public and Nonprofit Leadership will be hosting an event, 2020 Census: Race Counts. The event will include 1) a discussion with national experts on why a fair census count is so critical, 2) release of new research on racial equity, and 3) graduate student awards of $20,000 to D.C. nonprofits working on racial justice.

  • 2017-2018 Annual Report

    Our Nielsen Graduate Student Fellow, Edward Weizenegger, conducted research on philanthropists’ experiences. Luisa Boyarski, the Center’s Assistant Director, examined what nonprofits are doing to advance racial equity within their organizations. Tamara Copeland, CEO of the Washington Regional Association of Grantmakers, and I taught a new McCourt School graduate course, “Philanthropists’ Response to Racial Inequity in America” in which students awarded $20,000 to Washington, D.C. nonprofits intentionally promoting racial equity within their organizations and in the broader community.
